Sammie Bane, varsity setter for the Brownstown Central High School Lady Braves volleyball team, has earned high school All-American designation from PrepVolleyball.com.
According to the website, "To be a high school All-American you must have made a massive impact on your high school team and be one of the top five to 10 players in your state, regardless of class."
Bane was among 150 volleyball players to be recognized in the nation and one of six Indiana players.
Bane also was one of 79 finalists for the Andi Collins Award. Cancer ended Collins' volleyball career just short of her 17th birthday in 2003. The Andi Collins Award, presented in her memory, recognizes the best senior setter in the nation.
Bane will begin her college volleyball career at Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va., in the fall.
Sammie Bane was recently named an All-American. Shelby Hoskins made the 'special mention' list. Both Sammie and Shelby play for the UNION 18 Asics team this season.

PRACTICES ARE ON THIS EVENING!
SISC and Hoops are open this evening. All UNION teams should practice unless the weather starts getting bad again this evening and more snow begins to fall.
I have spoken with directors at both facilities and we have come up with the following policy for inclement weather in the future:
- Facilities will make a decision to be open or closed by 1pm and contact me.
- After hearing from the facilities, I will email all coaches and team reps and post the decision on the website.
- Individual coaches should NOT call the facility to cancel. If they are open for business, they expect our teams to show up. If you do not show for scheduled time, we will be billed for that court time.
- At no time should you feel like you MUST attend practice. If you feel the roads in your area are unsafe to travel, please let us know, and we will try to cover your practices. Canceling for weather, when they are open, will result in them billing us, so we should try to practice whenever possible.

A big thank you goes to all who participated in the Union Holiday Camps this year. 2010 marks the beginning of a very special Holiday tradition and what a beginning it was. Over 75 kids from three states and six different clubs participated in the inaugural camps. Camp was directed by Dan Palmer and staffed by Eric Garvey, Marisa Main, Brandon Flynn, and several current and future college players from:
University of Kentucky
Bellarmine University
University of Alabama
Loyola University
University of Pittsburgh
Sacred Heart Academy
Last but certainly not least, a very special thanks goes to former Ohio State standout, Marisa Main for offering her expertise as guest director for the setter's camps. Marisa is off to finish her last semester of law school before returning to Louisville late this Spring and starting a new life with her husband to be.

Beginning January 4, 2011 advanced skills clinics are offered weekly to club players in addition to regular practices. These small group clinics provide individualized attention in improving players' specific skills and positional play.
